Our Sustainability Commitment

Ships to Shore King of the Sea is all about community connections; local, national, and international. As event organizers, we deeply value sustainability and strive to do our part to ensure future generations enjoy the same opportunities for community connections and international cooperation that we do today.

Ships to Shore follows the recommendations set by the Richmond Sustainable Event initiative.

Sustainability Commitment Statement – Ships to Shore is committed to fostering positive environmental, social, and economic impacts for current and future generations within the local and international community.

Reduce Waste and Recycle – Richmond’s Green Ambassadors will be on site helping festival goers properly dispose of their waste. Our waste diversion target is 80%.

Make Smart Water Choices – Richmond’s portable water stations will be on site during the festival, meaning you can bring your refillable water bottle from home and have free, clean, fresh, and cold drinking water.

Establish a Positive Local Impact – Ships to Shore will be showcasing local exhibitors and vendors, will be using local suppliers, and will be connecting with local businesses..

Promote Public and Clean Transportation – Visit the Getting to Ships to Shore section of the webpage to find the sustainable ways to commute to the event. Ships to Shore will offer the Wheel Watch service where you can leave your bike in a securely guarded compound near the festival gates

Physical Accessibility –Ships to Shore has been planned to ensure that the site is open and welcoming to seniors, parents with strollers, and people of all abilities.

Make Smart Food Choices – With over 15 food trucks participating in Ships to Shore, mitigating the waste created is a large priority. Compostable, environmentally friendly food service items will be mandatory. Keep an eye out for compostable napkins, plates and cutlery.

Volunteers  – Hundreds of local volunteers will contribute to the positive local impact of the event.
